David Moyes was candid about Everton’s ongoing Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) challenges, yet he remained hopeful of signing a centre-forward.

While that ambition did not materialize, the club is now well-positioned for the summer transfer window, especially with the Friedkin Group set to have greater financial flexibility.

Despite their financial constraints, Everton managed to bring in a new addition, securing Carlos Alcaraz on an initial loan deal from Flamengo.

The agreement includes a clause that could make the move permanent for approximately £15 million if specific conditions are met.

This transfer has left the Brazilian media stunned, particularly due to the favorable conditions for Everton.

Brazilian Media Shocked by Alcaraz Deal Conditions

Brazilian journalist Mauro Cezar Pereira, writing for Gazete do Urubu, expressed disbelief over Flamengo’s decision to loan Alcaraz with a relatively low permanent buy clause.

He highlighted the fact that Alcaraz was Flamengo’s most expensive signing ever, yet they agreed to a deal with no financial gain.

“The club’s most expensive player was sold without Flamengo making a profit—zero profit—to a club in desperate need of reinforcements, Everton, who have numerous injuries and required a player for this position,” Pereira noted.

He pointed out that Everton avoided an outright purchase due to financial fair play regulations, which had already cost them eight points across two seasons in the Premier League.

“In other words, Flamengo agreed to conditions that were favorable to Everton, correct?

They could have insisted on better terms, saying: ‘Okay, we accept the structure of the deal, but instead of £15 million, we want £25 million, or £30 million, or even 20% of a future sale.’”

Pereira Believes Everton Will Sell Alcaraz for Double

Alcaraz is highly rated both in his native Argentina and across Europe, having already played for Southampton, Juventus, and now Everton.

Even Lionel Messi has spoken highly of him, making Flamengo’s decision to include a relatively low buy clause even more surprising.

Pereira further suggested that Everton could eventually sell Alcaraz to another Premier League club for double the amount they paid.

“Flamengo is essentially just recovering the money they spent on him. But if Alcaraz performs well at Everton, he will move to another English club for twice the price, and Flamengo won’t benefit at all.”

He criticized Flamengo’s negotiation tactics, emphasizing that they should have secured better terms, particularly considering Everton’s urgent need for reinforcements.

“They needed him. He nearly scored just five minutes after coming on in the last game. Flamengo could have pushed for a better deal but failed to do so.”
