While Financial Fair Play (FFP) primarily focused on a club’s overall financial balance, the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Regulations (PSR) place a significant emphasis on controlling wage expenditure.
After a busy summer transfer window that saw West Ham United sign several high-wage players, it’s understandable that the club is now looking to offload some of their surplus squad members before the window closes.
One such player who could be on his way out is Kurt Zouma, provided he is physically fit enough to pass a medical.
However, another player that the club is reportedly eager to part with is Danny Ings.
Despite limited appearances and only three Premier League goals to his name for West Ham, Ings remains one of the club’s highest earners.
His substantial wages have deterred several potential buyers, and there are even suggestions that West Ham might consider terminating his contract if he isn’t sold by the end of the window.
Fortunately, it may not come to that, as journalist Darren Witcoop has indicated that Ings could be heading to the Championship, with Leeds United or Burnley showing interest. Speaking to talkSPORT, Witcoop noted, “There’s a lot of interest in Danny Ings.
I think this one will come down to money, as it often does. Danny Ings wants to play and isn’t in the picture at West Ham in the long term.”
Witcoop continued, “He’d be a good signing for clubs in the Championship.
Looking at teams who have money to spend, you cannot look past Burnley and Leeds in the hunt for his signature. Leeds are in the mix for Ings.”
Although Ings has shown glimpses of his quality when called upon this year, it would likely be in everyone’s best interest if he moves on in the coming days.
However, whether a deal is finalized remains uncertain.
