Bryan King has called for Tottenham to make a “big-name” signing this summer. The former Spurs scout believes the club needs a high-profile addition in the number nine position. This comes after Sky Sports News reported on June 21 that both Spurs and Manchester United are interested in LOSC Lille striker Jonathan David.
However, King, speaking exclusively to Tottenham News, does not think the 24-year-old David is the right fit for the club. “He definitely has room to improve at Tottenham,” King said. “But this isn’t a player who supporters are going to be excited about signing. He scored 19 goals in Ligue 1, but what did Lille win? Did his goals help them win the league or the French Cup? This is what supporters will be interested in. This is someone who will be on a recruitment list, but whether you bring him in is a different question. I think Tottenham need to be targeting a big-name player up front.”
Will Tottenham sign Jonathan David from LOSC Lille to play under Ange Postecoglou? David is a talented striker and will attract interest from many clubs across Europe. While he could undoubtedly score goals at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, he isn’t necessarily a marquee signing. If the club wants to progress under Ange Postecoglou, they need to bring in proven, high-profile players with a track record at the highest level. David has the potential to succeed, but Spurs supporters will likely prefer a guaranteed top-level player.
In other Tottenham news, supporters have been urged to take action following a recent decision by Daniel Levy.
