League One Defender Nears £3m Move to Sheffield United Amid Leeds United Transfer Speculation
More players will be arriving at Elland Road in the coming weeks as Daniel Farke continues to revamp his Leeds United first-team squad. However, one player who will not be heading to West Yorkshire is Harrison Burrows.
The left-back is on the brink of joining Leeds’ Championship rivals, Sheffield United. Burrows is scheduled to undergo a medical at Bramall Lane today, ahead of finalizing a £3 million transfer.
Blades manager Chris Wilder confirmed their interest in Burrows following the club’s 4-1 pre-season friendly victory at Harrogate Town last night.
“There’s been a lot of talk about this,” he said. “He [Burrows] is a player we are interested in. We’re pretty close, so we have to wait and see what happens over the next 24-48 hours.
“It’s no secret that we’re after a few players, and his profile is what we are looking for. Young players who can learn and grow with us are important for our medium and long term.”
Posh owner Darragh MacAnthony suggested that five other Championship clubs had lodged offers for Burrows during an appearance on TalkSport yesterday, with a couple of bids ‘accepted.’
Leeds were seemingly mentioned by MacAnthony as one of the interested parties.
Responding with a wry smile to talk of Sheffield United doing ‘good business’ in the window, MacAnthony said: “So have Leeds, so have a few others.
There’s always interest in our young talent, it’s what we do, and we haven’t finished our own shopping, so we still have a bit to do.”
His comments led to inevitable rumors that Leeds explored the possibility of hijacking the deal. LeedsLive understands that talk of Leeds being in for Burrows is wide of the mark and that he is not on their shortlist of transfer targets. Junior Firpo, Sam Byram, and Max Wober are currently the left-back options at Daniel Farke’s disposal for the 2024/25 campaign.
Burrows was one of the standout performers in the third tier of English football last season. His outstanding performances saw him crowned League One Player of the Season.
