Bilal El Khannouss left out of Leicester squad for Charlton trip as teenager Louis Page earns first senior start
Leicester City manager Marti Cifuentes has chosen to take Bilal El Khannouss “out of the spotlight” as speculation over the midfielder’s future intensifies.
El Khannouss is absent from the squad for City’s Championship trip to Charlton, a week after being substituted at half-time in the previous match.
His place in the starting XI is taken by 17-year-old Louis Page, who makes his full senior debut.
The 20-year-old playmaker has been strongly linked with Crystal Palace, who view him as a potential successor to Eberechi Eze, set to join Arsenal.
With mounting headlines around the transfer talk, Cifuentes felt the youngster would benefit from a step back.
“Bilal is a fantastic young talent,” the City boss told Sky Sports. “But it hasn’t been the easiest week for him.
We felt the right decision was to remove him from the spotlight for now, both for his own good and for the team.”
Elsewhere, James Justin misses out after struggling all week with a dead leg sustained at Preston, so Hamza Choudhury is drafted in at right-back.
Stephy Mavididi is also sidelined by a minor muscle issue, meaning Jeremy Monga earns his first league start.
The final change sees Oliver Skipp replace Harry Winks in midfield as Cifuentes reshuffle his side.
