Leeds United Target Udinese Defender Jaka Bijol Ahead of Premier League Return

With Leeds United set for Premier League football next season, manager Daniel Farke is prioritising defensive reinforcements to ensure the club avoids relegation in May 2026.

One of Leeds’ key targets is Udinese centre-back Jaka Bijol. The Slovenian international has emerged as a top priority for the club in the early stages of the transfer window.

Initially, Leeds believed they would need to pay around £19 million to secure Bijol’s services. However, new reports indicate they could complete the deal for a slightly reduced fee.

According to Joe Donnohue of the Yorkshire Evening Post, the two clubs are currently in negotiations, and a deal could be struck for around £17 million.

The 26-year-old’s physical presence could pair well with Joe Rodon in central defence, helping to establish a solid foundation in Farke’s preferred 4-2-3-1 formation, which focuses on high pressing and possession-based play.

Deploying Bijol as the right-sided centre-back would play to his strengths, while midfield protection from Ethan Ampadu could reduce the risk from his forward drives.

Additionally, regular work on set pieces would allow Leeds to capitalise on Bijol’s heading ability, particularly in the absence of Pascal Struijk.
