Kevin Thelwell Begins Transfer Business at Ibrox as Rangers Move to Support Russell Martin
Rangers have officially confirmed the signing of Dundee midfielder Lyall Cameron following a pre-contract agreement.
In another move, Bournemouth right-back Max Aarons has joined the Glasgow side on loan for the upcoming season, as manager Philippe Clement, along with Andrew Cavenagh and 49ers Enterprises, aim to assemble a competitive squad.
Meanwhile, former Dundee man Josh Mulligan has signed for Hibernian, a transfer that caught many by surprise.
Despite rumours linking Mulligan with Ibrox, Rangers made no move to reunite him with Cameron.
Daily Record journalist Scott McDermott expressed his surprise at the decision, highlighting Mulligan’s physicality and energy—qualities he feels Rangers could use in their midfield.
He commended Hibs for securing the 22-year-old and predicted he’ll be a strong addition to David Gray’s side.
“I’m surprised Rangers didn’t go for Mulligan alongside Cameron,” McDermott wrote in the Daily Record (28 June).
“He brings strength and running power—exactly what Rangers need in midfield. Credit to Hibs; he should be a top signing for Gray.”
Despite this, Rangers appear to have taken a calculated approach. Mulligan, while versatile—capable of playing as a right-back or central midfielder—may have struggled for consistent game time at Ibrox.
With midfielders such as Nico Raskin, Mohamed Diomande, and new arrival Connor Barron already in the mix, Mulligan’s opportunities could have been limited.
Rangers remain active in the transfer market and are reportedly eyeing defensive reinforcements, with Conor Coady mentioned as a potential target.
The club has already seen Leon Balogun depart and could also lose Robin Propper, who may return to FC Twente.
In addition, concerns persist over the fitness of full-backs Dujon Sterling and Ridvan Yilmaz, while new signing Clinton Nsiala is yet to be tested under the current regime.
Uncertainty also surrounds goalkeeper Jack Butland’s future, adding to the list of decisions awaiting the Ibrox hierarchy as they prepare for the new campaign.
