Leeds United remain highly interested in Rodrigo Muniz, and it’s easy to understand why. The Fulham striker fits the mould of exactly what Leeds are looking for—someone capable of leading the line in either a 4-2-3-1 or 4-3-3 setup.
His ability to score goals, occupy defenders, and act as a focal point in attack makes him a compelling target.
At one point earlier in the transfer window, Leeds appeared to be making tangible progress towards securing a deal for Muniz.
However, negotiations have since stalled. One key reason for the delay is Fulham’s reluctance to sanction a sale without first lining up a replacement.
Furthermore, the deal may require Leeds to break their transfer record in order to bring the Brazilian to Elland Road.
The ongoing speculation around Muniz’s future has left Fulham supporters anxious, especially as the club continues to evaluate incoming options.
Leeds are not alone in their pursuit either—several other clubs, including some involved in European competition, have shown serious interest in the 23-year-old forward.
LeedsLive journalist Graham Smyth shed some light on the situation during a recent episode of the Inside Elland Road Podcast.
Smyth discussed the importance of signing the right calibre of forward and explained that Leeds aren’t simply shopping for any attacking option—they’re looking for the right fit.
“It’s not just a case of signing a quality player and hoping they’ll adapt. It has to align with the manager’s tactical plans and the overall squad profile,” Smyth said.
He acknowledged fan frustration over the club’s quiet spell in the market, especially after a flurry of seven signings within 41 days, including names like Lucas Nmecha and Lucas Perri. However, Smyth believes that the club’s recent silence might be deliberate.
“They’re exercising patience. I still believe they feel a deal for Rodrigo Muniz can be struck,” he said, before adding, “But time is running out, and they can’t wait forever.”
Another factor could be a more guarded approach to media leaks. According to Smyth, Leeds might have “plugged the leak” to avoid tipping off rival clubs.
This makes strategic sense, especially considering the fierce competition for quality attackers across Europe.
The market for strikers this summer has been particularly intense. “Everyone is chasing goal scorers,” Smyth noted, citing examples such as Liverpool’s pursuit of Alexander Isak, and Manchester United’s attempt to swoop in on a forward Newcastle had shown interest in.
“Any player Leeds go for that brings genuine quality is likely to have multiple suitors, including those playing in the Champions League.”
Should a deal for Muniz prove unattainable, Leeds have alternative options. Everton’s Beto is believed to be on their shortlist, while VfB Stuttgart’s Ermedin Demirovic is another player reportedly under consideration.
However, few players match Muniz’s well-rounded qualities—someone who not only scores goals but also provides a strong physical presence and tactical flexibility.
Another intriguing option is Artem Dovbyk of AS Roma. Though the Ukrainian striker only joined Roma last season, there are suggestions he could be on the move again, and Leeds may be keeping close tabs on his situation.
For now, Leeds are likely to rely on either Lukas Nmecha or Joel Piroe to lead the line in their upcoming clash against Everton, which is just nine days away.
This underlines the urgency to bolster their attacking options before the window closes. While patience remains the operative word regarding Muniz, Leeds know that time—and competition—are not on their side.
