Leeds United’s pursuit of Joe Rodon appears to be faltering, with Football Insider reporting that the deal is likely to fall through.
Rodon, 26, experienced a career revival last season while on loan at Leeds, making 50 appearances under Daniel Farke. Having risen through Swansea City’s academy, his performances there earned him an £11 million transfer to Tottenham Hotspur in 2020. However, Rodon struggled to establish himself at Spurs, playing only 24 games for the Premier League club.
Following a loan spell at Stade Rennais in Ligue 1, Rodon chose to return to the Championship with Leeds. At Elland Road, the Welsh international showcased his talent, leading Leeds to express strong interest in a permanent transfer. Spurs, monitoring his progress, hoped to recover much of their initial investment and set his transfer fee at £10-15 million.
Leeds’ failure to secure promotion has made the deal even more improbable, especially with Southampton entering the race. The Saints, leveraging their Premier League status, aim to lure Rodon to the south coast, with Ipswich Town also showing interest.
Football Insider now reports that Leicester City has joined the competition, and Rodon prefers a move to a top-tier club. Leeds might have successfully persuaded him to stay if they had been promoted, but Rodon is not inclined to remain in the Championship next season.
