Leeds United target Ben Johnson is set to leave West Ham United after his contract expires. Johnson, 24, had been negotiating a new deal with the Hammers, but talks failed to reach an agreement. He made 25 appearances last season, including four Premier League starts under David Moyes.
Leeds have been monitoring Johnson and are now free to engage with him regarding a potential move to Elland Road this summer. He has been capped 10 times by England’s Under-21 team.
In a statement on West Ham’s website, Johnson expressed gratitude for his 17-year tenure at the club, saying, “Thank you to everyone at West Ham United for supporting me and helping me develop into a first-team player.”
He continued, “I’ve been fortunate to come through the Academy and play in the Premier League, domestic cups, and European competitions. I hope to be remembered for playing with a smile and enjoying my football, which is important to me.”
Reflecting on his time at the club, Johnson said, “Winning the UEFA Europa Conference League was a special memory. Being part of a European trophy win is rare, and achieving that with West Ham was incredible. My dreams were exceeded, and I’m so pleased to have done it as a West Ham player. I’ll never forget that night.”
He added, “I wish West Ham every success in the upcoming season under the new head coach. I will miss my teammates, the staff, and the supporters. West Ham will always hold a special place in my heart. I’ve grown as a player and a person thanks to West Ham, so thank you to the Club!”
