Leeds United have received a significant boost in their pursuit of Strasbourg midfielder Habib Diarra.

The 21-year-old has been strongly linked with a move to Elland Road this summer, as manager Daniel Farke aims to strengthen his midfield options.

Diarra, under contract at Strasbourg until June 2028, made 30 appearances in Ligue 1 during the 2024/25 campaign, scoring four goals and providing five assists.

A standout performer under Liam Rosenior, he played a crucial role in helping the club secure a seventh-place finish and qualification for the UEFA Conference League.

His form has reportedly caught the attention of several clubs, including those in the Premier League.

French outlet L’Équipe recently claimed that Leeds had submitted a €26 million (£22m) bid for Diarra, joining Everton in the race for his signature.

However, it was later reported that Everton had cooled their interest, leaving Leeds as the only club to have made a concrete offer.

In a new development, Strasbourg president Marc Keller has confirmed that Diarra is likely to depart this summer.

Speaking to French broadcaster RMC Sport, Keller revealed: “There’s one player who should leave, based on a promise I made to him two years ago, and that’s our captain, Habib Diarra.

When he extended his contract, we agreed he would stay until June 2025. So, if we receive an attractive offer that suits both the club and the player, he will be allowed to leave.”

This statement positions Leeds favourably in the race for the talented midfielder.
