For now, Rangers supporters will shift their hopes to European success as they prepare for the second leg of their Europa League last-16 clash against Fenerbahce at Ibrox on March 13.

Rangers Urged to Sign St Mirren’s Olusanya

Rangers, under the scouting direction of Nils Koppen, aimed to equip former manager Philippe Clement with a squad capable of retaining at least one domestic trophy this season.

However, that goal has fallen short, with the team now sitting second in the Scottish Premiership.

Their best hope of salvaging the campaign rests on another memorable European run under Ferguson.

Scottish football pundit Hugh Keevins has suggested Rangers should consider signing St Mirren forward Toyosi Olusanya, who played a decisive role in Clement’s final match in charge at Ibrox on February 22.

Writing in the Sunday Mail (March 9, page 58), Keevins argues that the 27-year-old, who has battled his way through the English non-league system before making an impact in Scotland, is an ideal target.

Olusanya has been in fine form this season, registering eight goals and an assist. With his contract in Paisley set to expire in the summer, Keevins believes Rangers should act fast.

He also highlights Olusanya’s ability to unsettle defenders, pointing to his recent performance against Celtic’s Liam Scales and Auston Trusty.

“This is the guy who terrorised Auston Trusty and then Liam Scales during Celtic’s hard-fought win last week in Paisley,” Keevins wrote.

“A week earlier, he bullied Rangers’ shaken defence and scored in the match that sealed Philippe Clement’s fate at Ibrox.

“Hamza Igamane’s goalless run for Rangers has now stretched into double figures, yet here is a soon-to-be free agent who would thrive with better players around him. Maybe I’m missing something.”

Ferguson Can Be Satisfied with His Attack—For Now

Despite Rangers’ struggles this season, the attacking department has shown promise in recent games.

Cyriel Dessers has been in superb form, matching last season’s total of 22 goals with his brace in the impressive win in Istanbul. He was denied a hat-trick only by two incredibly close offside decisions.

Danilo, despite his injury setbacks, has shown flashes of his quality. Meanwhile, Igamane may be in a scoring drought, but his 10-game barren run includes only four full-match appearances.

Rangers are also getting goals from wide areas. Vaclav Cerny, in particular, has been a standout performer.

If the club is serious about ambition, securing Cerny on a permanent deal must be a priority. He is a game-changer and a proven match-winner.

That said, Keevins makes a valid point. Olusanya’s career path suggests his wages would not be an obstacle for Rangers. At 27, he fits an ideal age profile.

As a free agent, signing him would not require a transfer fee, and he has already demonstrated his ability to score in big matches.

With Rangers needing reinforcements, Olusanya could be a cost-effective and valuable addition to Ferguson’s squad ahead of the new season.
