West Ham United monitoring Dominic Calvert-Lewin's situation at Everton, reports TEAMtalk.
On December 24, it was reported via the outlet’s website that Newcastle is closely monitoring Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s situation at Everton. Serie A clubs are also showing interest in the striker.
Calvert-Lewin, linked to West Ham last summer, appears increasingly likely to leave Merseyside when his contract expires at the end of the season.
However, Everton remains optimistic about securing a contract renewal.
West Ham’s manager Julen Lopetegui has identified the need for a new striker.
The East London club currently has three senior forwards—Niclas Fullkrug, Michail Antonio, and Danny Ings—all in their 30s.
Antonio has been sidelined for an extended period following a road traffic accident, while Ings is not favored by Lopetegui.
The Hammers invested £27 million to sign Fullkrug from Borussia Dortmund last summer [BBC].
However, the German international has struggled to adapt, limited to just 239 minutes across all competitions this season, with only one goal to his name.
Fitness issues have further hindered his impact.
Given these circumstances, Lopetegui may push for a new signing as early as the January transfer window.
While West Ham has been linked with several strikers, including Mainz’s Jonathan Burkardt [TBR Football], Calvert-Lewin’s Premier League experience makes him an attractive option.
Despite this, Everton may hesitate to sell the Englishman to a league rival mid-season. As a result, West Ham might need to wait until the season ends to secure his signature.
