Several Leeds United Loan Players Featured in Action Over the Weekend
Sonny Perkins has finally scored his first goal for Leyton Orient—on his 13th attempt.
The striker, on loan from Leeds United for the season, found the net in the O’s FA Cup clash against Boreham Wood.
The 20-year-old opened the scoring for the League One team with a well-placed left-footed shot from the edge of the penalty area.
With Daniel Agyei doubling Orient’s lead just four minutes into the second half, it seemed almost certain they would progress to the FA Cup’s second round.
However, the National League South side mounted an impressive comeback, forcing the match into extra time and ultimately to a penalty shootout.
Leyton Orient narrowly advanced, winning the shootout 3-1 at Meadow Park.
Perkins hasn’t started as many games as he may have hoped since joining Orient.
Head coach Richie Wellens has primarily used him as an impact substitute in the league, where all seven of Perkins’ League One appearances have come off the bench.
His six starts, however, have come in various cup competitions.
Meanwhile, Sam Greenwood continued his strong scoring form as Preston North End suffered a 3-1 home loss to Bristol City.
Greenwood’s expertly taken free-kick just three minutes into the second half temporarily leveled the score at Deepdale.
However, Bristol City secured the win with second-half goals from Nahki Wells and Max Bird, moving into the Championship’s top 10.
Greenwood has now scored five goals in 14 appearances this season, finding the net in three of his last four matches.
It was a disappointing weekend for Jack Harrison and Everton, who were defeated by Premier League strugglers Southampton.
Harrison was subbed in shortly after the hour mark, but Adam Armstrong’s well-executed goal in the 85th minute handed Southampton their first league win of the season.
