Leeds United set to deliver another blow to Wayne Rooney this weekend.

For the first time in over a month, Daniel Farke has a full week of training with his players to prepare for the upcoming match, a benefit he hopes will yield positive results.

Leeds United and Plymouth Argyle have had contrasting starts to the season.

Leeds sits third in the Championship standings, while Plymouth hovers just one position above the relegation zone.

Adding to Plymouth’s challenges, Leeds loanee Darko Gyabi will be unavailable due to ineligibility to face his parent club.

If Argyle are to overcome Leeds, they must find a way to reverse their poor away form, which has seen them pick up just one point from six matches and concede 13 goals in the process.

Leeds has a chance to compound Wayne Rooney’s struggles with Plymouth at Elland Road.

This will mark Rooney’s second match against Leeds as a manager, his first being with Birmingham City earlier this year on New Year’s Day.

That encounter saw Leeds claim a decisive 3-0 victory at Elland Road, a result that led to Rooney’s dismissal from Birmingham soon after.

Rooney’s record against Leeds has been far from favorable.

Back in 2010, he was part of the Manchester United team that suffered a surprising FA Cup loss to League One’s Leeds at Old Trafford.

Later, during his brief stint with Derby County, Rooney was again on the losing side against Leeds, this time following a celebratory moment for the Whites.

Derby was required to give Leeds a guard of honor at Pride Park after Marcelo Bielsa’s squad secured promotion.

Despite Derby’s efforts, Leeds triumphed with a 3-1 win, with goals from Pablo Hernandez, Jamie Shackleton, and an own goal by Matt Clarke.

If Plymouth’s defensive issues persist, Rooney could face another challenging outing at Elland Road.

Rooney expressed frustration with Plymouth’s performance following their recent 3-3 draw against Paul Heckingbottom’s Preston North End.

Despite a spirited comeback that salvaged a point after trailing 3-0, Rooney was visibly upset post-match.

“I’m angry, to be honest,” he admitted. “That performance is nowhere near good enough. I was really disappointed for an hour of that game.

We weren’t ourselves at all. We were easy to play against, not putting in tackles or challenging for the ball.

Although I’m pleased we got a point, I can’t accept that level of performance.”

Reflecting further, he added, “At 3-0, I was concerned.

I tried to bring on more attacking players and get more crosses in, which we’ve been working on, but we failed to do it for most of the game.

While I’m glad we pulled off a comeback, the performance overall was disappointing.”

Rooney acknowledged that Plymouth has had strong performances this season but admitted that recent matches have seen a slump in form.

“The last three games have been a bit of a blip, so we need to snap out of it because today could have ended much worse,” he concluded.

With their recent defensive struggles and Rooney’s call for improvement, Plymouth will be looking to avoid another heavy loss as they face a formidable Leeds side on the rise.
