Leeds United Transfer Boost as Rennes Pursue Crysencio Summerville Alternative Following £51m PSG Offer

Stade Rennais remain interested in Crysencio Summerville, but reports from France indicate they are now considering alternative options as Leeds United stands firm on their star player.

Summerville was identified as a target for Rennes earlier this month while the French club was finalizing the £8 million deal for Glen Kamara.

While Kamara’s transfer proceeded swiftly, interest in Summerville has yet to materialize into an official offer.

A major hurdle in any potential transfer is Summerville’s price-tag. Leeds United is not actively looking to sell the 22-year-old and is unwilling to negotiate unless their terms are met.

Estimates vary, but it is believed it would take at least £30 million for Leeds to consider opening talks, with some reports suggesting a valuation as high as £40 million.

Foot Mercato reports that Rennes has now “activated” interest in an alternative player who would likely cost much less.

The Ligue 1 club is now eyeing a move for 19-year-old Wesley Gassova, currently playing for Corinthians in Brazil.

Rennes needs to fill a wide position and has the funds to do so, with their own young star, Désiré Doué, set to move on.

Despite being just 19, Doué has been a regular starter for two full seasons and has drawn significant interest from Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain.

PSG is reportedly further along in their pursuit, having tabled an offer worth €60 million (£50.6 million) plus add-ons, likely enough for Rennes to accept.

Additionally, Rennes sold striker Martin Terrier to Bayer Leverkusen in a deal worth around £18.5 million, providing them with more money to spend.

Rennes has seen several exits this summer as they look to refresh their squad following a disappointing 10th-place finish last season. Consequently, they must avoid spending too much of their budget on one player.

Interestingly, the report mentions that two other clubs interested in Summerville have already submitted offers for Gassova, who is poised to move to Europe this summer.

Chelsea and West Ham have both been linked to Summerville in recent weeks, though speculation has quieted.

West Ham was one of the first clubs to make an official approach for Summerville, but their reported £20 million proposal was well below Leeds’ valuation. The Hammers now appear to have moved on.

Chelsea has been described as “long-time admirers” of Summerville throughout the summer but has yet to make an official move.

Leeds maintains they have no intention of selling the winger this summer and have successfully fended off interest so far.

Summerville has been with the squad during their pre-season trip to Germany but missed Saturday’s 2-0 win over Schalke 04 due to a hamstring issue.
