In the summer, Santiago Gimenez was a target, but the prolific Mexican now seems more likely to join AC Milan rather than leave Feyenoord for a relegation battle.
Despite missing out on Gimenez, Leicester have not stopped scouting in the Netherlands. According to De Telegraaf, the Foxes have been monitoring Chuba Akpom.
The former Arsenal and Middlesbrough striker has had a mixed season, scoring eight goals in 31 appearances.
Despite this, his tally would still make him Leicester’s top scorer for the campaign.
Akpom’s overall record in Amsterdam is quite impressive, with 23 goals and four assists in 67 matches, averaging a goal contribution every 110 minutes.
His performances have attracted interest from other clubs, including Marseille and Sunderland, but Leicester are reportedly keen on making a “very concrete” offer.
Leicester City Need a Striker to Support Jamie Vardy
Even at 38, Jamie Vardy continues to perform at a high level. Van Nistelrooy praised him for his outstanding display in Leicester’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Sunday.
However, beyond Vardy, the Foxes have limited options up front.
Patson Daka has worked tirelessly but has only scored once this season, while Leicester are looking to terminate Odsonne Edouard’s unsuccessful loan spell.
Additionally, Tom Cannon’s departure to Sheffield United frustrated many fans, given his 11 goals in all competitions during his loan spell at Stoke City.
Akpom may not be a world-class striker, but his past experience in the Premier League and potential desire to return to English football could make him a valuable addition to Leicester’s squad.
