Leicester City identified as a potential destination for ‘elegant’ player Jose Mourinho targeted in the summer – journalist
As the January transfer window nears, Leicester City continue to be linked with multiple players.
Leicester City are poised to end 2024 in the relegation zone, having dropped into the bottom three earlier this week.
With one game left this year against Manchester City, it seems unlikely the Foxes will climb out of 18th place before January.
However, the upcoming transfer window offers Leicester an opportunity to strengthen their squad and mount a serious fight to avoid relegation in the second half of the season.
Several players have already been linked with the club, including Valentin Gomez, as a new center-back appears to be a key target for manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.
This focus is understandable, given Leicester’s defensive struggles, conceding 40 goals in the league so far.
In addition to defensive reinforcements, Leicester could target a midfielder who previously caught Jose Mourinho’s attention.
Cristian Medina, a talented 22-year-old currently with Boca Juniors, is emerging as a potential signing for 2025.

Medina attracted European interest during the summer transfer window, with Mourinho’s Fenerbahce reportedly close to completing a deal for the Argentine.
Despite the move falling through, Medina will join Estudiantes LP on January 1, where he is expected to play for six months before making a move to Europe.
Journalist Uriel Jugt has suggested Leicester is a possible destination for Medina.
Medina is a central midfielder known for his versatility. He has made 160 appearances for Boca Juniors, scoring nine goals and providing 11 assists.
In addition to his primary role, he can operate as a number 10 or on the right flank.
His skill set has drawn praise from scouts, including Diego Mazzilli, who described Medina as a player with exceptional technique, one-on-one ability, speed, and resilience.
“He had a lot of individual technique, great one-on-one skills, speed, and he dribbled past everyone,” Mazzilli noted, as per GOAL.
“He was very elegant in his play and strong, withstanding kicks from opponents who mistimed their tackles.”
Leicester fans will hope Medina’s potential arrival, along with other transfer window additions, can provide the quality needed to help the club escape relegation and secure their place in the Premier League.
