Leicester City are reportedly interested in Schalke striker Moussa Sylla, with the German club preparing to part ways with their leading scorer.

According to Bild, City face competition from an unnamed Championship side for the 25-year-old, who was absent from Schalke training on Wednesday.

While the club claimed Sylla was ill, the German outlet suggests his absence is linked to an imminent transfer.

Schalke, currently playing in Bundesliga 2, are under financial pressure and need player sales to balance their books.

Sylla is valued at around €5m to €6m (£4.3m–£5.2m), with performance-related add-ons potentially taking the fee to €7m (£6m).

The Mali international developed at Monaco but struggled for consistency there and later at Utrecht.

However, his career took off with Pau in Ligue 2, where a 15-goal campaign earned him a move to Schalke.

Last season, he scored 16 times in 27 league appearances, firmly establishing himself as their attacking focal point.

Leicester are eager to bring in a striker before the transfer window closes, having yet to find a long-term replacement for Jamie Vardy after his summer departure.

Jordan Ayew has led the line in all three Championship fixtures under Marti Cifuentes but has been shifted deeper in matches, with Patson Daka featuring from the bench.

Despite both Ayew and Daka scoring twice in pre-season, neither has opened their account in competitive action, leaving City short of firepower.
