Leicester City Interested in Liverpool Winger but Cannot Guarantee His Desired Game Time
Scotland U21 International Ben Doak Scored Against Leicester City Last Summer but Made Only Five Appearances Due to a Knee Injury
Leicester City has emerged as one of the clubs interested in securing Liverpool winger Ben Doak on loan.
According to The Athletic, Leicester is competing with Southampton for the 18-year-old’s services, as Doak seeks a short-term move away from Anfield to gain valuable playing time. Last season, a knee injury limited him to just five appearances.
One of these appearances was against Leicester in the Carabao Cup, where Doak played over an hour in Liverpool’s 3-1 victory. He also scored in a pre-season friendly against Leicester in Singapore last July.
Leicester City is looking to bolster their attacking options, with manager Steve Cooper keen on acquiring a new attacking midfielder and potentially a striker.
The club has been linked with several wingers, including Juventus’s Matias Soule and Arsenal’s Reiss Nelson, with preliminary discussions already underway.
Despite Leicester’s interest, Doak’s chance of securing more game time may face challenges at the club.
Leicester is also targeting established wide players and has competition from Stephy Mavididi, Abdul Fatawu, Bobby De Cordova-Reid, and possibly Kasey McAteer, though the latter might go out on loan.
Cooper, who has a background as a youth coach and academy manager at Liverpool, is likely well-acquainted with Doak.
However, with the Scotland Under-21 international having only 12 senior appearances to his name, including just three in the Premier League, every signing is crucial for Leicester given their constrained budget.
