Leicester City Legend Makes Shocking U-Turn as Club Issues Statement

Claudio Ranieri has come out of retirement to take on a third spell with Roma.

The veteran coach, 73, had been expected to retire after successfully helping Cagliari avoid relegation in May, nearly four decades after his first managerial position.

However, Roma has lured him back for a short-term role, where he will lead the Serie A club until the season’s end.

Ranieri, who previously managed Roma in a two-year spell in 2009 and briefly again five years ago, will transition into a senior executive role afterward, providing advisory support to the ownership group.

“AS Roma is pleased to announce that Claudio Ranieri is the new Head Coach of the First Team,” the club said in a statement.

“At the conclusion of the season, Claudio will move into a senior executive position as an adviser to ownership on all sporting matters.

The search for a future coach will continue, with Claudio offering input on the decision.”

Renowned for leading Leicester City to a surprise Premier League title in 2016, Ranieri also managed Chelsea, Fulham, and Watford during his time in England.

In 2024, he becomes Roma’s fourth coach after Jose Mourinho, Daniele de Rossi, and Ivan Juric, who was recently dismissed.

Ranieri’s first game will be against his former club Napoli on November 24, followed by a Europa League match at Tottenham.
