UEFA Announces Payments to Over 900 Clubs for Releasing Players to International Duty
Leicester City have received over £1.25 million from UEFA as part of the Club Benefits Programme, providing a financial boost ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window.
This initiative compensates clubs for releasing players to participate in national team competitions. Specifically, Leicester City were awarded £1,256,602, a share of the £40 million distributed among English clubs.
UEFA confirmed that a total of 901 clubs across Europe benefited from this scheme, with the combined payout amounting to £200 million.
The payments cover the international tournament cycle from 2020 to 2024, including Euro 2024, the 2020/21 and 2022/23 editions of the UEFA Nations League, as well as European Championship qualifying matches for the 2022–24 period.
Under the programme, compensation is allocated to clubs based on the number of players released for national duty and the duration of their involvement.
This includes a per-day payment for players participating in Euro 2024.
All Premier League clubs received compensation, with Manchester City topping the list of earners at £4.45 million.
These payments offer valuable support to clubs, particularly ahead of a busy transfer market, helping to offset the burden of releasing players for international duty.
