Leeds Still Pursuing Winger Following Major Transfer Development in Last 72 Hours – Journalist
Leeds have shown interest in 21-year-old attacking midfielder Jonathan Rowe but have yet to make a formal bid.
Leeds have held discussions with Norwich City and planned to submit a bid around £7 million for the England youth international.
However, they discovered Norwich’s valuation for the winger is higher.
French club Marseille entered the fray, potentially jeopardizing Leeds’ plans.
According to Mike McGrath of The Telegraph, Marseille made a formal bid on Friday, August 9, which was immediately rejected. The Ligue 1 club is considering making another offer.
Rowe is expected to leave Carrow Road in the summer transfer window and was not included in last week’s matchday squad.
McGrath wrote on X: “Jonathan Rowe situation at Norwich City. Bid from Marseille went in Friday evening – not accepted but considering another offer.
“Player not included in squad after discussions with club (did not withdraw himself) at the weekend. Leeds and other clubs are still in contention.”
Leeds must make a concrete attempt to sign Jonathan Rowe.
The Whites should now make a formal bid and present a lucrative offer to secure Rowe.
Leeds have funds available after selling Crysencio Summerville, Archie Gray, and other players this summer. They can certainly afford to meet Norwich’s asking price.
Following a 3-3 draw in their opening game against Portsmouth, the squad clearly needs bolstering.
Daniel Farke has quality attacking players at his disposal, but Leeds need to find a replacement for Summerville.
Rowe contributed to 14 Championship goals last season and could be a valuable addition to the side.
Crystal Palace forward Jesurun Rak-Sakyi is another player of interest, but no bids have been placed so far.
