West Ham United have finalised a deal worth around £20 million with Leicester City for goalkeeper Mads Hermansen, with the Danish international scheduled to undergo his medical in London on Friday.

Hermansen joined Leicester from Brøndby in 2023 on a five-year contract for an undisclosed fee and has since made 72 appearances in all competitions.

His departure, however, leaves the Foxes confident in their alternative option — Jakub Stolarczyk.

Stolarczyk, 24, has been with Leicester since 2017, arriving from Polish seventh-tier club Piast Chęciny to join the academy.

Following in the footsteps of academy graduates like Peter Shilton, Gary Lineker, Ben Chilwell, and Harvey Barnes, he has steadily progressed through the ranks.

He made his senior debut in a 2-0 EFL Cup win over Burton Albion on 9 August 2023, then his league debut just three days later in a 1-0 victory at Huddersfield Town.

One of his standout moments came in March 2024, during the FA Cup quarter-final against Chelsea, when he saved a Raheem Sterling penalty in the first half.

In the 2024/25 season, Stolarczyk featured 10 times in the Premier League. Despite Leicester’s relegation, he recorded two clean sheets and made 28 saves.

Standing at 6ft 4in, he brings an imposing presence and valuable experience from loan spells at Dunfermline, Fleetwood Town, and Hartlepool United.

His performances have drawn praise, with Dunfermline manager John Hughes describing his debut as “sensational.”

With Hermansen departing, the timing seems perfect for Stolarczyk to claim the number one shirt. At 24, he is entering his prime years and already understands Leicester’s playing style.

Although he has only played twice in the Championship, his top-flight exposure should more than compensate for the lack of second-tier experience.

Financially, promoting Stolarczyk also benefits Leicester. Earning a reported £10,000 per week according to Capology, he is among the club’s lower earners for the 2025/26 campaign.

His contract runs until 2027, giving Leicester both security and potential resale value should he develop further.

If he follows a similar path to Hermansen, he could one day command a substantial transfer fee, much like Harvey Barnes, who joined Newcastle United for £38 million.

With Stolarczyk ready to step into the role, Leicester can reinvest the £20 million from Hermansen’s sale into other areas of the squad.

The club have already added veteran goalkeeper Asmir Begović, their only summer signing so far.

Uncertainty remains over whether Leicester could face a points deduction due to alleged breaches of EFL financial rules.

However, turning to Stolarczyk would cost the club nothing while offering a reliable and ambitious option for consistent first-team football.
