Leicester City’s Boubakary Soumare Transfer Faces Setback Amid Ongoing Talks
The midfielder is unlikely to feature frequently this season under Steve Cooper's management.
Leicester City midfielder Boubakary Soumare is reportedly on Monaco’s shortlist, but finalizing a deal is proving to be complex.
The 25-year-old has fallen out of favor at Leicester, making a summer transfer likely.
According to journalist Fabrizio Romano, Monaco are interested in Soumare, but they prefer an initial loan with an option to buy.
However, Leicester would rather have an obligation to buy after a potential loan move.
Soumare joined Leicester from Lille in 2021 but has struggled to establish himself in the defensive midfielder role at the King Power Stadium.
This led to a loan move to La Liga side Sevilla last season.
He did, however, make a brief appearance for Leicester in their opening match against Spurs, coming on as a 79th-minute substitute.
Last week, Turkish outlet Aslinda reported that Fenerbahce, managed by Jose Mourinho, were interested in Soumare, but no deal has been made, leaving Monaco as the most likely destination.
A move would benefit both Soumare and Leicester City, as the midfielder faces stiff competition from Harry Winks, Wilfred Ndidi, Hamza Choudhury, and new signing Oliver Skipp, who are expected to be ahead of him in the pecking order under manager Steve Cooper this season.
