Ange Postecoglou Sends Defiant Warning to Newcastle United Ahead of Tottenham Clash

Spurs Manager Hosts Eddie Howe and Newcastle United in North London This Weekend

Newcastle United, in strong form, will face a Tottenham side struggling for consistency when they meet in North London on Saturday lunchtime.

While the Magpies ended 2024 with an impressive 2-0 victory over Manchester United, extending their winning streak to five games, Spurs were frustrated by a 2-2 draw against Wolves.

This result left Tottenham in the bottom half of the table, equally distant from both the relegation zone and the top four.

Pressure is mounting on Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou, though a series of injuries provide a plausible explanation for the team’s failure to replicate last season’s success.

As Tottenham prepares to host Newcastle at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Postecoglou remained resolute about his team’s future prospects.

“It’s still fairly tight,” Postecoglou said. “I feel that once we get a healthier squad, we’ll be able to perform consistently at a high level. We’ve already shown we can beat anyone this year.”

Postecoglou believes a strong run is still possible but emphasizes that the immediate focus is on regaining sharpness.

“We’re working hard, and if we were at our best, we would have scored a third goal, maybe even a fourth, against Wolves,” he added.

“We were so close at times, but we’re lacking that dynamic movement.

These players are giving everything, but we’re not as sharp as we can be.”

With a rare midweek break, Spurs plan to give their players some rest and recovery—something that’s typically not possible during a season with European commitments.

Postecoglou views this break as crucial for his team’s recovery and hopes it will make a significant difference moving forward.

“It was always part of the plan,” Postecoglou explained. “We knew this would be our first week without a midweek game.

The whole group likely needs a couple of days to step away and recharge.”
