Vardy’s Departure Leaves Major Gap for Foxes to Fill This Summer
The EFL has officially confirmed the dates for the upcoming summer transfer window, with Leicester City preparing for life back in the Championship following their relegation from the Premier League.
The Foxes, who spent just one season back in the top flight as champions, are set for a significant squad overhaul ahead of the 2025/26 campaign.
Leicester will be looking to rebuild their squad with several changes expected, especially with veteran striker Jamie Vardy anticipated to depart.
Club officials at the King Power Stadium can now plan accordingly, knowing exactly when they can conduct their transfer business.
This summer, there will be two separate transfer windows. The first will run from June 1 to June 10, closing at 7pm.
This 10-day window aligns with the Premier League’s mini window and allows clubs participating in the FIFA Club World Cup—which begins in the United States on June 14—to strengthen their squads ahead of the tournament.
The EFL released a statement explaining the reasoning behind the additional window:
“Due to an additional FIFA Club World Cup Registration Period introduced ahead of the tournament, the EFL and its Clubs have agreed that the summer transfer window shall operate for an additional 10-day period from Sunday 1 June 2025 to 19:00 on Tuesday 10 June 2025. This is necessary because the transfer window cannot exceed 89 total days.”
They added that FIFA regulations allow member associations of clubs involved in the Club World Cup to create this special registration period.
As a result, the EFL expects significant international transfer activity and wants its own clubs to remain competitive during this timeframe.
Following this brief opening, the main summer window will reopen on June 16 and run through to September 1, again closing at 7pm.
This two-part transfer structure gives clubs like Leicester City ample opportunity to reshape their squads as they target a quick return to the Premier League.
