Leicester City have reportedly submitted a loan bid for Swiss international goalkeeper Jonas Omlin.
According to Sky Germany, Borussia Monchengladbach would prefer any agreement to include either a purchase option or an obligation to buy, while also needing to secure a replacement before allowing the 31-year-old to leave.
The Foxes’ goalkeeping department is currently stretched thin following several departures. Daniel Iversen and Danny Ward were released after their contracts expired, while Mads Hermansen completed an £18m move to West Ham.
Asmir Begovic, signed on a free this summer at the age of 38, is the club’s only new arrival so far and is expected to provide experience and backup to Jakub Stolarczyk, who has stepped up as the new first-choice goalkeeper.
Behind them, 20-year-old Stevie Bausor is next in line but has yet to make a senior appearance.
Traditionally, Leicester have operated with three senior goalkeepers, a structure that has served them well for nearly a decade, making the addition of another experienced shot-stopper increasingly likely as the transfer deadline approaches.
Omlin has enjoyed first-choice status at most clubs throughout his career. During his time at Basel, he was twice named in the Swiss Super League team of the year before securing a move to Montpellier, where he became their regular starter for two-and-a-half seasons.
In January 2023, Monchengladbach signed him to be their number one, but injuries have since disrupted his progress.
Over the past two Bundesliga campaigns, Omlin has featured in just 19 of 68 possible matches.
A serious shoulder problem that required surgery sidelined him for almost seven months, and a calf injury last season saw Moritz Nicolas take over in goal.
Even after recovering, Omlin struggled to reclaim his position, though he did return late in the campaign and captained the side after Nicolas himself picked up an injury.
This term, Nicolas has continued as Gladbach’s first-choice keeper, with Omlin left on the bench for their opening two competitive fixtures.
Leicester’s interest offers him a potential route back to regular football while simultaneously filling a vital gap in City’s squad.
