Leicester City Face Key Summer Sales After Relegation

Following their relegation, Leicester City are preparing for a summer rebuild with several player departures likely.

Unlike their last drop to the Championship, when 13 first-team players exited—mostly on free transfers or loans—this time, only three players (Jamie Vardy, Danny Ward, and Daniel Iversen) are out of contract.

That leaves limited room to reduce the wage bill, and the club now must rely on player sales to comply with Profit and Sustainability Rules (PSR) and fund new signings.

Crucially, Leicester lack a high-value homegrown player like Harvey Barnes to secure pure profit, so multiple sales will be necessary. Seven players are prime candidates to generate transfer income:

Mads Hermansen:

The goalkeeper could deliver the biggest return. Signed for £6.5m, his current value is estimated around £25m. Chelsea may not be in the market for a new keeper, but Brentford and other European clubs are showing interest in the Dane’s shot-stopping and ball-playing abilities.

Bilal El Khannouss:

Touted as the next major sale, City are reportedly willing to part with the Moroccan for €26m (£22m), though that would only yield a modest book profit of around £7m. Despite links to Arsenal, Villa, and Newcastle, El Khannouss has yet to fully prove himself, with just two goals and three assists in the Premier League.

Wout Faes:

Likely to depart following relegation, Faes is reportedly valued at £17m, which would be a healthy gain on his £6m book value. With interest from Lazio and Bundesliga clubs, and after a shaky defensive season, fans might not oppose his exit.

Boubakary Soumaré:

After inconsistent performances and with just one year remaining on his deal, this summer represents Leicester’s last real chance to cash in. He could attract interest from Spain after a decent loan stint at Sevilla.

Patson Daka:

With Vardy leaving, Daka might have had an opening, but Leicester seem poised to move on. He also has one year left on his contract, making a sale likely.

Jannik Vestergaard:

Initially not expected to leave, Vestergaard’s recent exclusion from the squad changes that outlook. However, finding a buyer may prove difficult.

Harry Winks:

Once a core player, Winks has fallen out of favour following a dispute with manager Ruud van Nistelrooy.
