Marti Cifuentes Poised to Take Charge as Leicester City's New Manager
Martí Cifuentes is reportedly on the verge of becoming the new manager of Leicester City, having verbally agreed to a two-year contract, according to Sky Sports News.
The deal is said to include an option to extend for a third year, reflecting the club’s long-term vision under the Spaniard’s guidance.
Leicester are finalising negotiations with Cifuentes, who is set to take over from Ruud van Nistelrooy following his recent departure.
The 43-year-old is currently without a club after leaving Queens Park Rangers at the end of last season, but despite the mutual parting, The Telegraph reports that Leicester may still owe QPR approximately £500,000 in compensation due to contractual clauses.
It has now been over a week since van Nistelrooy’s exit, and Leicester are eager to move forward swiftly as they prepare for life in the Championship after last season’s relegation from the Premier League.
Pre-season training is already underway at the club’s Seagrave training complex, with former Foxes midfielder Andy King temporarily overseeing first-team duties.
The team began their pre-season friendlies with a 3-1 win over Peterborough United and are set to open the 2025/26 Championship campaign at home against Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday, August 10.
