Palmeiras Eye Richarlison as Tottenham Open to Summer Exit
Richarlison was notably absent from Tottenham’s 2-0 win over Reading on Saturday (19 July), adding further weight to speculation surrounding his future at the club.
With Thomas Frank now shaping his squad for the 2025/26 season, signs are pointing towards a possible exit for the Brazilian forward.
According to Terra (15 July), Brazilian giants Palmeiras have expressed strong interest in Richarlison and have already contacted Tottenham.
Remarkably, the Sao Paulo-based club are not discouraged by his hefty £55 million valuation — a development that could prove encouraging for Daniel Levy and Spurs.
While Tottenham insider John Wenham, speaking to Tottenham News, is sceptical about Palmeiras matching the full £55m fee, he believes a lucrative deal remains possible.
He pointed out that Palmeiras have recently seen a financial boost through their participation in the FIFA Club World Cup and the impending sale of midfielder Richard Rios.
Wenham also cited the club’s ambition, noting their past willingness to invest significantly, such as when they secured Victor Roque from Barcelona.
This reflects a broader shift in Brazilian football, where top clubs are now spending more due to increased exposure and international competition.
“I don’t think it will be £55m,” Wenham admitted, “but I could see Richarlison moving to Palmeiras for a fairly lucrative fee.”
Tottenham, meanwhile, appear ready to move on. Despite Richarlison’s undoubted talent, his time in North London has been marred by injuries and inconsistent performances.
In 24 appearances last season, the 27-year-old registered just five goals and seven assists.
As Tottenham look to refresh their attacking options and recoup funds for further reinforcements, parting ways with Richarlison this summer now seems increasingly likely.
A return to Brazil could offer him a fresh start — and provide Spurs with a healthy transfer fee.
