Cardiff City’s Will Alves, on a six-month loan from Leicester, has earned high praise from WalesOnline journalist Glen Williams.
Speaking to The Athletic, Williams acknowledged the growing excitement surrounding Alves and suggested the hype is well-founded.
“You’re always cautious when fans rave about young prospects, as they sometimes fail to meet expectations,” Williams noted.
“But the enthusiasm from Leicester supporters seems justified. Alves is clearly a confident and talented player with immense potential.
“His pace and willingness to take on defenders were expected, but his close ball control has been particularly impressive. He’s also handled the physical demands of Championship football well.”
Williams added that while it’s still early in Alves’ Cardiff career, Leicester appears to have a special talent on their hands.
Alves Set for First-Team Football at Leicester
Since making his senior debut at 16 in January 2022, Alves has been on the fringes of Leicester’s first team.
His progress was briefly halted by a serious knee injury, but his loan spell in the Championship suggests he’ll play a key role for Ruud van Nistelrooy’s squad next season.
If Leicester faces relegation, Alves could step in as a replacement for Bilal El Khannouss, who is expected to depart in the summer.
