Newcastle United have finally broken their trophy drought, bringing long-awaited silverware to St James’ Park.
However, despite this success, it’s clear that further investment in Eddie Howe’s squad is necessary to ensure continued progress.

On the right wing, names under consideration include Southampton’s Tyler Dibling, Bournemouth’s Antoine Semenyo, Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, PSV’s Johan Bakayoko, and Sporting Lisbon’s Francisco Trincão—who was also linked with the club earlier this week via The i’s Mark Douglas.
In the striker department, Newcastle’s interest in Hugo Ekitike remains strong, with the Frenchman now impressing at Frankfurt.
Lille’s Jonathan David and RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Šeško have also been ‘regularly watched’ by the club.
Additionally, Bournemouth’s Justin Kluivert, a versatile attacking midfielder who can operate both centrally and out wide, has ‘featured prominently’ in Newcastle’s early transfer discussions.
Edwards suggests that a move for the Dutchman could materialize, though it won’t be straightforward.
Meanwhile, Nottingham Forest’s Morgan Gibbs-White remains a long-term target, but prying him away from the City Ground could be difficult given his impressive performances this season.
Defensive Reinforcements and Goalkeeper Search
Newcastle’s search for a right-sided centre-back continues, with Crystal Palace’s Marc Guéhi still on their radar despite previous failed bids last summer.
However, securing a deal remains challenging.
Elsewhere, Bournemouth’s defensive duo of Dean Huijsen and Illia Zabarnyi have also attracted strong interest from Newcastle, with both impressing since the turn of the year.
Regarding the goalkeeper position, Burnley’s James Trafford remains a long-term target, and The Telegraph hints that Martin Dúbravka could still leave despite signing a new contract—potentially paving the way for Trafford’s arrival.
