Sean Dyche acknowledges Everton might have to sell Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

Sean Dyche has acknowledged that Everton’s financial situation may compel the club to accept an offer for Dominic Calvert-Lewin next week, despite his wish to keep the striker.

The Everton manager is reluctant to lose Calvert-Lewin, who was the club’s top scorer across all competitions last season.

However, Dyche may be unable to prevent his departure if a compelling bid is made before the transfer deadline next Friday.

Calvert-Lewin is in the final year of his contract with Everton, having declined to sign an extension due to the uncertainty surrounding the club’s future.

The situation remains unresolved, even with American billionaire John Textor showing interest in buying Farhad Moshiri’s majority stake in the club.

Textor would still need to overcome several obstacles before completing such a deal.

Given these circumstances, Dyche admits that Everton’s financial needs could necessitate a sale.

“Any offer of a certain level would still have to be considered by the club,” Dyche said when asked about Calvert-Lewin’s future.

“We are in a better position because of player trading and the amount we have reduced wages, but the issue is not fully resolved.

So, there would still be a moment when the decision-makers at the club receive a phone call, and then it is up to them.

“I can provide a football perspective. I think everyone would agree: ‘We don’t need to sell anyone right now,’ but that doesn’t mean it won’t happen.

The people in charge are still not in a position to say: ‘We are financially stable, we can start investing in the club, and we are going to sign players,’ as is quite evident.”

Earlier in the summer, Newcastle expressed interest in Calvert-Lewin but could not agree on personal terms with the 27-year-old.

Newcastle full-back Kieran Trippier has been linked to a move to Everton, but Dyche, who previously managed Trippier at Burnley, said, “there’s not much more flexibility” for additional signings at Goodison Park.

Dyche, who may have a limited squad for the match against Tottenham on Saturday due to injuries and suspensions, said: “If we had funds and could explore the market, we would consider various positions, but right-back would not be an immediate priority because of the players we already have.

While injuries are unpredictable, Youngy [Ashley Young] will return after serving a one-match ban at Spurs, and Séamus [Coleman] is making good progress.

Regarding right-backs, any decision must contribute to the team’s long-term needs, not just address a short-term gap.”
