“I can’t comment specifically on Mads (to West Ham), but there’s obviously interest around him,” Cifuentes told Leicestershire Live.

“There are definitely conversations happening about certain players. Interest is there, as it is for most clubs in the country. Some moves may take place.

“My priority is ensuring that everyone here is fully committed and training at the highest level. I’m not a fan of having an overly large squad.

While I know the Championship is demanding with a busy fixture schedule, I still believe we need to reduce the squad size first.

Then, if the right opportunities arise, we’ll bring in players who can genuinely improve the team.

“At the same time, I want to integrate academy players who are ready to contribute. The next few weeks will be about finding the right balance.”

Leicester open their Championship campaign on Sunday, hosting Sheffield Wednesday at 4.30pm.
