Mick Brown, the highly experienced former chief scout at Manchester United and Sunderland, and still well-connected within those clubs, has revealed to Football Insider that Nuno Espirito Santo has emerged as a serious candidate for the West Ham United managerial position.

Nuno, who was dismissed by Nottingham Forest earlier this month after a fallout with controversial owner Evangelos Marinakis, was swiftly replaced at the City Ground by Ange Postecoglou.

Despite his abrupt departure, his time at Forest significantly boosted his reputation, placing him in the frame for another Premier League role.

Sources indicate he is now being considered a leading contender at West Ham, should Graham Potter be removed from his post.

This update follows Football Insider’s exclusive report on 28 August, which revealed that West Ham are actively weighing up alternatives to Potter as they prepare for the possibility of parting ways with him.

Speaking again on 15 September, Brown explained that the 3-0 defeat to Tottenham has intensified scrutiny around Potter, with West Ham’s hierarchy now “asking serious questions” about whether he should continue.

Having worked alongside managerial greats such as Sir Alex Ferguson during his scouting career, Brown firmly believes Nuno is a strong option for the Hammers.

“West Ham will have drawn up a shortlist,” Brown told Football Insider. “Even if it’s not official because Potter is still in charge, they’ll be lining up names who could come in. Nuno will definitely be on that list because of the job he did at Nottingham Forest.

He’s proven himself capable, and I don’t think there are many better choices available at the moment.

They’d be foolish not to consider him, even if they ultimately go for someone else. On top of that, he’s a cheaper choice since they wouldn’t need to pay compensation to another club.”

Although Potter is understood to retain boardroom support for now, contingency plans are firmly underway in case confidence in him continues to decline.

On 14 September, Football Insider revealed that Nuno is already attracting significant Premier League interest, with several clubs monitoring his availability.

His record at Forest—transforming them from relegation candidates into a Europa League side—has left him with plenty of admirers.

Players have also spoken fondly of him, with Neco Williams calling Nuno “amazing” in a heartfelt farewell message.
