West Ham Officially Announce Diouf as First Summer Signing
West Ham United have officially kick-started their summer transfer window with the confirmed signing of Senegal international Ibrahim Diouf.
The 20-year-old defender becomes the first arrival under new manager Graham Potter, marking the beginning of what could be an eventful window at the London Stadium.
The Irons reached an agreement with Slavia Prague for a deal worth £19 million, with an additional £3.45 million in potential add-ons, as reported by Ryan Taylor on 13 July.
The transfer was confirmed on Tuesday (15 July), with Diouf now set to follow in the footsteps of Tomas Soucek and Vladimir Coufal in making the switch from Czech football to East London.
Diouf’s arrival has already generated excitement among supporters and pundits alike.
Former Brentford and Leicester City manager Martin Allen praised the left-back’s qualities, particularly his attacking attributes and the impact he made during his farewell appearance for Slavia Prague.
“I know it’s a done deal,” Allen told West Ham Zone exclusively. “He was outstanding when he played against England—quick, young, and very good going forward.
In his last game for Slavia Prague, he came on in the 90th minute and was applauded by all his teammates and fans. That tells you a lot.”
Allen believes the emotional send-off reflects Diouf’s character and the high regard in which he was held, adding: “That’s a really good sign. West Ham should relish this. It looks to me like a really good signing.”
Diouf’s arrival comes at an ideal time for the Hammers, following the departure of veteran left-back Aaron Cresswell, whose contract expired this summer.
With Diouf’s addition, West Ham now have a dynamic and youthful option on the left flank.
The move also creates healthy competition for academy graduate Ollie Scarles, as the club ushers in a promising new chapter on the left side of the pitch.
