Rangers are reportedly considering a move for former defender Russell Martin as their new manager, as they accelerate their search following another trophyless season.

At MK Dons, Martin earned widespread praise for implementing a possession-heavy style of football, with his side ranking just behind Manchester City and Barcelona for average possession during his first full season.

His success there led to a move to Swansea, where he achieved a top-half finish before joining Southampton.

During his time at St Mary’s, Martin continued to impress, notably drawing praise from Pep Guardiola after a strong performance against Manchester City.

His most notable achievement came when he led Southampton to promotion via the Championship play-offs at Wembley, securing his first trophy as a manager.

Despite his accomplishments, Martin was recently dismissed by Southampton, making him a free agent.

Rangers are now assessing whether to bring him back to Ibrox, this time as head coach, as they seek a fresh direction and long-term leadership for the club.
