“I’m Not Angry” – Hagi Sr. Addresses Rangers Agreement Amid £1.5m Serie A Transfer Speculation

Questions about his future as manager, uncertainty regarding new additions to the squad, and unrest in every corner of Ibrox are far from the progress Philippe Clement might have envisioned a year ago.

The summer wasn’t without its challenges, although resolving Ianis Hagi’s contract situation has clearly benefited Rangers.

Ianis Hagi’s Improved Situation at Rangers

The controversy surrounding the Romania international added to the tension, with his famous father, Gheorghe Hagi, publicly criticizing his treatment and even claiming he told Rangers to “shut up.”

However, according to The Glasgow Times, the turmoil has subsided, and Hagi has returned to play a pivotal role under Clement’s leadership.

Speaking about the situation, Gheorghe Hagi noted the positive turnaround:

“I didn’t want to bother Clement. I just wanted to spend time with Ianis. So no, I didn’t talk to him,” Hagi Sr. said, despite his earlier criticism of the Rangers boss.

“I’m not angry with anyone. The relationship between Clement and Ianis has improved, and things look very good now.

“Ianis has shown that he loves football and is dedicated to it.

Last summer was extremely challenging, but he passed a tough test. He proved his commitment.

I also want to praise national manager Mircea Lucescu for having the courage to call him to the national team, even when Ianis had limited playing time.

“Ianis is a mature, established player who has competed at all levels for our national team.

He was named the best young player, won the championship with Rangers, and achieved remarkable results.

“But like any footballer, he has faced difficult periods. I’ve experienced the same, like being relegated with Brescia to Serie B.

“I bring him luck when I’m present at his matches—there’s usually a goal! Unfortunately, I won’t be able to see him much this season due to my own commitments.”

Should Rangers Cash In on Hagi?

Hagi has shown signs of returning to the form he displayed during Rangers’ title-winning season, contributing four goals and one assist in 12 league appearances—equivalent to nine full games.

Clement is pleased to have the playmaker back, though he might prefer adding a natural winger of similar quality to Vaclav Cerny on the opposite flank.

Interest in Hagi has been reported, but his profile and recent performances suggest Rangers should value him higher than the £1.5m fee mentioned.

What’s clear is that Clement needs every quality player he can rely on, and Hagi has done more than most to inspire his teammates in recent weeks. If only he had been available sooner.
