Everton flop Jean-Philippe Gbamin set to seal MLS move
Jean-Philippe Gbamin was signed for £25 million in 2019 but made just eight appearances for the Blues. Gbamin left Everton in 2023 and joined French second-tier club USL Dunkerque. However, the 28-year-old is now on the move again.
According to Italian transfer guru Fabrizio Romano, the Ivory Coast international is heading to New York City Red Bulls in the MLS. Gbamin is set to sign a deal until December 2026, with an option for an extra year.
Jean-Philippe Gbamin’s record since Everton exit
Gbamin featured 21 times for Dunkerque during the 2023/24 season, scoring two goals and registering one assist. This is more than double the number of games he played for Everton, indicating a restart to his career.
For Everton, expensive mistakes like Gbamin must be avoided. Focusing on young talent for reasonable fees seems to be the way forward.
Sean Dyche’s early business looks positive, and with Lindstrøm set to sign, Everton’s new transfer strategy appears to be working well.
