New deal for QB Rudolph as Backup to Will Levis

Quarterback Mason Rudolph has secured a one-year contract with the Tennessee Titans, bidding farewell to his tenure with the Pittsburgh Steelers, as reported by NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo.

Rudolph wasted no time in finding a new team, finalizing the deal less than an hour after the commencement of the new league year. In his new role, he is anticipated to serve as the backup to Will Levis, operating under the guidance of the Titans’ new head coach, Brian Callahan.

The newly minted Titan quarterback made an impression last year with three starts as a backup, notably clinching a victory against Callahan, who was then serving as the offensive coordinator for the Cincinnati Bengals.

Although the Pittsburgh Steelers expressed interest in retaining Rudolph, their acquisition of Russell Wilson signaled that Rudolph would explore opportunities elsewhere.

” He knows we want him back. We’ve told him we want him to be a part of the process,” mentioned Pittsburgh Steelers general manager Omar Khan in a local press interview prior to his media day availability, as reported by Steelers Depot.

Rudolph found himself in a challenging situation late in the 2023 season when the Steelers faced the possibility of missing the playoffs. Despite starting the season with a promising 7-4 record, a three-game losing streak jeopardized their postseason aspirations.

With primary quarterback Kenny Pickett sidelined due to injury and backup Mitch Trubisky struggling in two starts following Pickett’s ankle sprain, Rudolph, who had been relegated to third-string quarterback, was called upon to lead the team.

Rudolph rose to the occasion and played a crucial role in guiding the Steelers to a three-game winning streak. Under his leadership, the offense exhibited notable improvement, tallying 34 points against the Cincinnati Bengals in his first start of the season, marking the first time the Steelers reached the 30-point mark in 2023. The momentum continued as Rudolph aided the team in scoring 30 points on the road against the Seattle Seahawks the following week.
