Rangers will no longer be as reliant on player sales to fund new signings, a point Philippe Clement often highlighted during transfer windows.

However, the club still aims to offload surplus players, including those currently out on loan, such as Rabbi Matondo, Kieran Dowell, and Ben Davies.

Another player in this category is José Cifuentes, who is on loan at Greek side Aris Thessaloniki.

Aris have a £4.2 million option to buy the Ecuadorian midfielder permanently in the summer, but financial constraints may complicate the deal as they battle for European qualification.

At one point, a permanent transfer seemed unlikely due to Cifuentes’ inconsistent performances.

However, a recent resurgence has improved his standing within the team, making a move more feasible.

Aris Looking to Negotiate a Deal for Cifuentes

According to a new report, Aris are keen to sign Cifuentes but hope to negotiate a lower transfer fee with Rangers.

The Rangers Review states that discussions have begun between the clubs, with the Greek side seeking a “more manageable” price within their budget.

Rangers originally paid £1 million to sign Cifuentes from Los Angeles FC in 2023 and would still expect to turn a profit on any potential sale.

Cifuentes’ Form at Aris

Initially, it appeared Cifuentes might return to Ibrox early after a disappointing start in Greece. However, a managerial change proved pivotal.

Under new head coach Apostolos Mantzios, the midfielder found his form and has since become an integral part of the squad.

So far, Cifuentes has made 25 appearances for Aris—23 in the league—scoring once and providing two assists.

His improved performances have reignited interest in a permanent transfer, but financial negotiations will determine his future.
