Newcastle took a gamble when they brought in Malick Thiaw and Nick Woltemade, given that neither had previous Premier League experience. However, both players have settled in exceptionally well.

He’s composed, keeps possession well, and brings creativity too.

“He suffered a nasty ankle injury at Leeds, and when he returned, it was clear he wasn’t at the fitness level required to carry out what we ask of him. But he’s improving, and he’s in a much better place now.”

Injury problems have been a recurring theme in Ramsey’s career.

He regularly showed flashes of brilliance at Aston Villa, and many viewed Newcastle’s £39 million deal for the 24-year-old as a bargain, especially with Villa needing to comply with PSR regulations.

Yet injuries disrupted his progress at Villa Park, and early signs at Newcastle suggest those issues may follow him unless managed carefully.

Hopefully, this latest setback proves to be nothing more than a temporary hurdle, and fans will soon witness the qualities Howe sees daily in training, allowing Ramsey to establish himself as a key contributor in the months ahead.
