Newcastle nearing deal to acquire Dominic Calvert-Lewin from Everton

Everton intensify interest in Newcastle United winger Yankuba Minteh as talks progress regarding the potential transfer of striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin to Eddie Howe’s team.

According to Mail Sport, discussions began last month regarding both transfers, with both clubs aiming to meet financial guidelines by June 30.

Newcastle have been monitoring Calvert-Lewin for more than a year, although concerns over his injury history initially deterred them. However, the striker focused on conditioning last summer, enhancing his durability and leading Everton’s attack for most of the season.

With one year remaining on his current contract, Everton has offered Calvert-Lewin a new deal, while Chelsea showed tentative interest that has since diminished. Nevertheless, the opportunity to join Newcastle’s project appeals to the 27-year-old, who is valued at approximately £35 million by Everton.

Conversely, Everton is keen on 19-year-old Minteh, who impressed during a loan spell at Feyenoord under new Liverpool manager Arne Slot, scoring 11 goals, ten of which came in the league.

Minteh joined Newcastle from Danish club OB last year for £6 million and immediately embarked on a loan stint. The Gambian international gained Champions League experience and capped off the season with a Dutch Cup triumph, albeit receiving a red card in the final.

Brighton has also expressed interest in Minteh as they evaluate wing options, but Newcastle values the teenager at around £30 million, with Roma and Borussia Dortmund also monitoring his progress.

Meanwhile, Newcastle remains in pursuit of another winger after missing out on top target Michael Olise, who opted to join Bayern Munich from Crystal Palace.

Negotiations are ongoing between Newcastle and Burnley over a potential £17 million deal for goalkeeper James Trafford, who is presently on vacation in Spain.
