Everton are making a late push to sign Yankuba Minteh after talks broke down earlier this week, according to reports. The Chronicle states that Everton are trying to revive negotiations to bring the Gambian winger to Goodison Park. However, a deal hinges on them significantly reducing their demands for Dominic Calvert-Lewin, whom they had walked away from signing a few days ago due to a £37m asking price.
The same report reveals that Newcastle sources have denied claims that Minteh would be relegated to the youth team if he refuses a late move to help comply with PSR before the 30th June deadline. It was reported yesterday that the 19-year-old could be sidelined by Eddie Howe if he declined a move to Lyon, who are currently offering the most money. This claim has been dismissed by sources close to the club, says Lee Ryder. It seems the youngster prefers to stay in the Premier League, possibly explaining Everton’s renewed interest.
Interestingly, Everton are close to recouping £10m as Ben Godfrey nears a move to Atalanta. This may ease their PSR concerns slightly and free up funds to increase their offer for Minteh. However, Newcastle wants Calvert-Lewin in return but won’t negotiate for the 27-year-old striker unless the asking price drops.
The Chronicle states that the door remains open for Newcastle to rekindle talks over Calvert-Lewin. Still, it appears Everton will need to up their offer for Minteh and lower their demands for DCL if any progress is to be made. Otherwise, Newcastle will have to hope someone else is sold or another enticing offer for Minteh materializes, as reports suggest he isn’t keen on a move to France.
