“Newcastle Set to Land SENSATIONAL Star Who’ll Outshine Demba Ba in EPIC Transfer Coup!”
After losing out on Hugo Ekitike to Liverpool, Newcastle United are actively pursuing alternative attacking options to bolster their squad.
While Alexander Isak is expected to stay, the club remains short on reliable depth, with young William Osula the only other natural striker.
Since the Ekitike setback, Newcastle have been linked with Benjamin Sesko, Julian Alvarez, and Dominic Calvert-Lewin. However, a new name has surfaced—Brentford striker Yoane Wissa.
The 28-year-old has reportedly become a serious target, with Sky Sports’ Keith Downie indicating confidence that a deal can be reached.
Although a £25m bid was initially rejected, Newcastle are preparing a fresh offer worth £30m plus add-ons.
Interest in Wissa isn’t limited to the Magpies. Tottenham and Nottingham Forest are also monitoring the situation.
Brentford had previously placed a £50m valuation on the DR Congo international, but that figure is seen as negotiable.
Personal terms are unlikely to be an issue, especially with Wissa reportedly eager for a new challenge and the opportunity to play European football.
Brentford, who are undergoing a transitional period with key figures such as manager Thomas Frank, Bryan Mbeumo, Christian Nørgaard, and Mark Flekken all departing, could be open to a sale.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe has stressed the importance of signing “the right players” rather than rushing deals.
Yet Wissa, with his Premier League experience and versatility, looks an ideal candidate.
Following Ivan Toney’s exit to Al-Ahli, Wissa stepped up as Brentford’s main goal threat last season, scoring 20 non-penalty goals and registering four assists.
Only Mohamed Salah scored more non-penalty goals in the league. Across four seasons, he has 49 goals in 149 appearances—impressive for a player who cost £8.5m from Lorient.
Compared with positional peers like Haaland, Isak, Solanke, and João Pedro, Wissa ranks highly in shot-creating actions, pass completion, and overall involvement.
His 3,072 minutes played last season underline his reliability. Football analyst Zach Lowy called his rise “remarkable.”
Wissa has even drawn comparisons to Newcastle cult hero Demba Ba, who arrived from West Ham in 2011 and helped the club to a top-five finish with 16 goals in his best season.
Wissa bettered that last term, scoring 20 and assisting four in more minutes, while showing similarly instinctive finishing and intelligent movement.
However, Wissa isn’t a perfect fit. At 28, he falls outside Newcastle’s typical age profile of 24 and under, and his potential AFCON involvement with DR Congo could see him miss part of the 2025/26 season.
Still, with Callum Wilson’s departure and other targets yet to materialise, Wissa offers a proven, Premier League-ready option.
If Newcastle can lower the fee, he could prove to be an astute addition—an experienced poacher capable of becoming the club’s next Demba Ba-like figure at St. James’ Park.
