Newcastle United Must Sign a Top Striker This Summer to Ease the Burden on Alexander Isak
Callum Wilson has recently returned from a long-term injury that sidelined him for most of the season.
To his credit, Newcastle’s number 9 found the net in his first start of the campaign.
However, his absence left Alexander Isak shouldering the attacking burden, with the Swedish striker starting nearly every game due to a lack of alternative options.
When Isak was unavailable, Anthony Gordon was often deployed as a central forward, even though summer signing Will Osula, who cost £15 million, was on the bench.
This highlights Newcastle’s pressing need for attacking reinforcements in the summer transfer window.
Would Victor Osimhen Accept a Backup Role?
The challenge for Newcastle is finding a proven goal-scorer capable of performing at the highest level while also accepting a secondary role behind Isak. That’s a tough sell for most elite strikers.
The Chronicle has once again reported that Newcastle could have the opportunity to sign Victor Osimhen after his return to Napoli from his loan at Galatasaray.
This isn’t a new rumor, as similar links emerged in November last year. The reported fee would be around £60 million—a bargain given Osimhen’s reputation.
This is especially true when considering past claims that Newcastle’s owners, PIF, had agreed on an £82 million deal for him, a story that ultimately proved false.
London Media Stirring the Pot
Predictably, London-based media outlets have turned this into an Isak-related saga.
In their view, Newcastle signing Osimhen would open the door for Isak’s departure, possibly to a Premier League rival.
Alternatively, if Osimhen joins Chelsea or Arsenal, Newcastle would retain Isak but miss out on a marquee striker.
Out of pure spite, it would be satisfying to see Newcastle keep Isak and sign Osimhen. However, realistically speaking, Osimhen is more likely to choose Chelsea or Arsenal if he moves to England.
He wouldn’t want to compete with Isak, and, truthfully, Isak is the better player.
