According to a report in the 18 July edition of an Italian newspaper, Juventus’ progress in securing Juan Cabal from Hellas Verona suggests they may abandon their pursuit of Todibo. The 24-year-old defender reportedly favors a move to Turin over West Ham from his current club Nice, as manager Tim Steidten aims to reshape Julen Lopetegui’s defensive lineup.
A transfer domino effect has emerged, with Todibo potentially still open to agreeing personal terms with West Ham even if Juventus wasn’t initially his top choice, as per La Gazzetta dello Sport (7 July).
Football Italia (17 July) reports that Arsenal is nearing a £42m deal for Bologna’s Riccardo Calafiori, prompting Bologna to prefer selling abroad despite Juventus making progress on personal terms.
As a result, Juventus seems poised to disrupt Inter Milan’s deal for Cabal, potentially clearing the path for Todibo to join West Ham in East London.
From Juventus’ perspective, the acquisition of Cabal appears financially prudent, with a deal valued at £10m including bonuses to Verona. The 23-year-old Colombian is expected to earn around £20,000 per week over five years.
If Todibo joins West Ham, his Premier League wages are anticipated to surpass this amount significantly, making a move to England a more practical choice for the Frenchman to focus on his new chapter in the Premier League rather than contemplating missed opportunities at Juventus.
