Newcastle United in Talks Over Dean Huijsen as Transfer Interest Intensifies

Newcastle United have initiated contact with Bournemouth over the potential signing of young defender Dean Huijsen, who has made waves during his debut Premier League campaign.

The 20-year-old, who joined Bournemouth from Juventus for £15 million last summer, has caught the attention of top clubs across England and Europe with his standout performances.

Huijsen’s combination of youth, form, and a £50 million release clause has turned him into one of the most sought-after defensive prospects ahead of the summer transfer window.

Newcastle, in particular, are looking to rejuvenate their centre-back options, having failed in an earlier attempt to land Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.

The Magpies are not alone in their interest. Chelsea, Arsenal, and Liverpool are also monitoring Huijsen’s situation closely, with expectations growing that the Spain international will depart the Vitality Stadium at the end of the season.

Despite the clarity of Huijsen’s release clause, several clubs are reportedly discussing the possibility of structured payments and add-ons with Bournemouth rather than paying the full fee upfront.

Despite the increasing speculation surrounding his future, Huijsen remains composed.

Speaking to Sky Sports, he expressed confidence in those managing his affairs—most notably his father, Donny Huijsen, who acts as his agent.

“I’m very calm,” Huijsen said. “I don’t really focus on it right now. I’m just concentrating on finishing the season well. My dad is my agent and handles everything.

I don’t read much, and I’m not thinking about transfers. I’m just working hard and focusing on my football.”

The likelihood of a summer move appears high, particularly given recent comments from Huijsen’s Bournemouth teammate Justin Kluivert.

In an interview with MARCA, Kluivert praised Huijsen’s talent and stated confidently that the young defender won’t remain at Bournemouth beyond this season.

“He’s incredible,” said Kluivert. “He came to England just last summer and has adapted perfectly.

He’s still very young but already plays for Spain and does it with such maturity. I’m sure many clubs will come calling. We all know he won’t be at Bournemouth next season.”

While Newcastle remain keen, Chelsea are reportedly leading the race to secure Huijsen’s signature.

According to The Independent, the Blues are willing to offer the centre-back a seven-year deal and are hopeful of finalizing the transfer before the Club World Cup later this year.

The report also claims Huijsen is giving serious consideration to Chelsea’s offer.

Although Huijsen has previously named Real Madrid as a potential dream destination, the Spanish giants are not expected to pursue a move this summer, leaving Premier League clubs in a strong position to secure his services.

Newcastle, meanwhile, continue to explore multiple defensive targets. Alongside Huijsen, Bournemouth’s Ilya Zabarnyi is also under consideration, while long-standing interest in Marc Guehi persists.

Fabian Schar recently extended his contract by a year, but Newcastle still face long-term uncertainties in central defence.

Schar turns 34 next season, and Dan Burn’s contract is due to expire in the summer of 2026.

Sven Botman, the club’s only senior centre-back under 30, has suffered from recurring injury problems over the past two seasons.

Given these concerns, Newcastle have made signing a new centre-back one of their top priorities heading into the summer transfer window.
