Newcastle United are targeting a Manchester United star for a loan move, but the Red Devils are pushing for a permanent deal, according to fresh reports.

Newcastle in the Market for Premier League Talent

With Champions League football returning to St. James’ Park, Newcastle United are preparing for a demanding season and are looking to strengthen their squad across multiple positions.

One of their key priorities appears to be reinforcing their defence, as the squad’s current centre-back options include ageing players like Fabian Schar and Dan Burn, while club captain Jamaal Lascelles is expected to leave when his contract expires at the end of the month.

In response to this, Newcastle have reportedly initiated talks with Jan Paul van Hecke of Brighton & Hove Albion.

Discussions with the defender’s representatives are already underway, and a formal approach to Brighton is expected soon. However, Brighton are said to be demanding around £60 million for the Dutchman.

Magpies Eye Kudus and Other Attacking Options

Defence isn’t the only area being targeted. According to The Athletic, Newcastle have also discussed internally the possibility of signing West Ham United’s Mohammed Kudus.

The Ghanaian forward has a £75 million release clause in his contract, and while he has struggled for consistent playing time under new West Ham boss Graham Potter, the Hammers are reportedly open to his sale.

Kudus is being considered as an alternative to Brentford’s Bryan Mbeumo, and Newcastle are continuing to explore multiple attacking targets.

Marcus Rashford on Newcastle’s Radar

In a surprising development, The Sun reports that Newcastle are interested in bringing Marcus Rashford to Tyneside on a season-long loan.

Rashford, who has endured an inconsistent spell at Manchester United, is understood to be available this summer, and Newcastle believe they can offer him the right environment to rediscover his best form.

However, Manchester United are not keen on a temporary exit and would prefer to cash in on Rashford through a permanent transfer. The club is reportedly looking for offers in the region of £40 million.

Although Aston Villa had the chance to sign him permanently during a previous loan spell, they opted against it, and Rashford is now set to return to United for pre-season.

Despite being described as “world-class” by teammate Luke Shaw, Rashford’s future remains uncertain.

The forward is believed to favour a move to Barcelona, but the La Liga giants are said to be prioritising other targets.

Should Newcastle secure Rashford, he would add further competition to an already stacked attacking lineup, which includes Anthony Gordon and Harvey Barnes.

He would not be brought in to replace star striker Alexander Isak, despite the Swede being linked with a move away, but rather to complement the squad’s offensive depth.
